During WW II, the Polish 1st Armoured Division liberated, among others, the towns of Saint-Omer, Ypres, Oostnieuwkerke, Roeselare, Tielt, Ruislede, and Ghent in Belgium. In this cemetery lie 253 Polish soldiers that fought for this liberation of in September and October 1944.
